Submitting Flyers

Thank you for your interest in submitting a banner for display or a flyer for distribution at a SJUSD school site and/or for SJUSD administrators.  PTA organizations or school connected organizations may now submit their banners and flyers directly to their school site administrator for approval. At this time only flyer and/or banner submissions from SJUSD PTA or school connected organizations will be approved for distribution in our schools. All other organizations looking to distribute flyers or display banners will be approved on a case-by-case basis by the site administrator.

All submitted items must adhere to the guidelines listed below:
  • Please submit your banner or flyer in PDF, JPG, PNG, or Microsoft Word formats ONLY via email to your school site administrator for review.
  • If your activities are held at a school site, please submit a copy of your Facility Use Permit with your banner/flyer. Visit Facilitron to apply for a permit; for more information visit the “Facility Rental Policies” link at the bottom of this page.
  • All flyers must include this disclaimer: “Approval for distribution of these materials does not imply endorsement by San José Unified School District.”
  • Banners must display the following message:  “Display of this material does not imply endorsement by San José Unified School District.”

When designing your flyer or banner please keep in mind:

According to SJUSD Administrative Regulations, materials shall NOT be distributed to students or advertised in school-sponsored publications if they:

  • Are obscene, libelous, or slanderous
  • Incite students to commit unlawful acts, violate school rules, or disrupt the school’s orderly operation
  • Discriminate against, attack, or denigrate any group on account of gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, or other unlawful consideration; or promote one group over another
  • Solicit funds or services for an organization
  • Advertise fee-based activities, unless scholarships or subsidies are offered
  • Are designed for the sole purpose of advertising a business (e.g. restaurant, retail shop, medical services)
  • Promote the use or sale of materials or services which are illegal or inconsistent with school objectives
  • Announce events or meetings of noncurricular, student-initiated groups.
When submitting your flyer or banner please note:
  • Schools have the option to make flyers available in any manner deemed appropriate for their site (i.e., post on the school website or bulletin board, make copies available in the school office, include information in the school newsletter or parent packets).
  • For classroom distribution, please deliver the flyer directly to your school in the appropriate formats and quantities. School sites are NOT responsible for printing flyers.
  • Distribution of flyers is only for elementary schools. Flyers for middle and high schools are NOT distributed to students, but may be made available as described above (e.g., school website, electronic distribution … Please note that we do not currently offer flyer distribution through services such as PeachJar in order to ensure that materials distributed to our students are both appropriate and equitable).
  • The San Jose Teachers’ Association must approve all flyers intended for teachers. Please call SJTA at (408) 267-0411 for more information.

Immigration Resources

San José Unified welcomes all students, regardless of their immigration status. However, many of our students and families are experiencing anxiety and uncertainty as a result of some of the proposed policy changes at the federal level.

With that in mind, the Board of Education passed a resolution on February 9, 2017, supporting immigrant students and families. You can click here to read the resolution.

Additionally, Superintendent Nancy Albarrán has joined 55 superintendents from across the country in signing on to this letter from the Broad Center, standing with DACA Dreamers and our immigrant community.
